Commentary on HBO’s The Jinx- Katherine Roberts

While I was home for Easter, I spent my free time watching the (relatively) new HBO series, The Jinx. The entire series is only 6 episodes, all of which I watched in one day…oops. Unfortunately, someone ruined the ending of this show for me, so I will refrain from any spoiler alerts for those of you who have not seen it yet. Even though I knew what was going to happen in the end, I found this miniseries extremely interesting and entertaining and would definitely reccommend it. The Jinx is a documentary, created by Andrew Jarecki, that examines the life of Robert Durst. Robert Durst, now in his late 60’s, comes from one of the wealthiest families in New York City and grew up “having more money than he could spend.” Robert has been accused for the murder of 3 separate individuals: his first wife, his best friend from college, and a neighbor in Texas. Despite having abundant amounts of evidence, Robert was never found guilty for any of these murders. They even found the weapon used to murder his neighbor in his car! These 6 episodes go over every small detail of the trials and try to make sense of this seemingly insane man. Robert Durst eventually gets word about the making of this documentary and reaches out to the director about wanting to get interviewed. This miniseries was very well-made in my opinion and shed some new light into the mysterious life of Robert Durst.
