Oscar Ballot Woes

I have been trying to fill out my Oscar Ballot for a couple of weeks now but for the first time in a long time for me the choices aren’t as clear! I’m posting to seek some guidance and clarity when it comes to The Academy Awards this year!

Best Picture:

For me, Best Picture comes down to two possibilities maybe three, The Revenant, Spotlight, and maybe Big Short. The Revenant was a masterpiece unlike anything anyone has seen in a long time  but Spotlight has been the long predicted frontrunner and adored by critics and fans alike. However, The Revenant and Big Short have been box office hits and surging in the last couple of weeks before the Oscars!! I don’t know maybe The Revenant will pull through but Spotlight could be a spoiler!

Best Actor in a Supporting Role:

Sylvester Stallone? Tom Hardy??? Although Stallone won the Gold Globe he didn’t receive a SAG nomination. Tom Hardy has been the man of the hour playing amazing roles in three great movies this year including Mad Max, Legend and obviously The Revenant! Maybe the Oscar will be the icing on the cake for him?

Best Actress in a Supporting Role:

This category is the most wide open of them all! Obviously Kate Winslet was going to be nominated for her role in Steve Jobs and even though she won the Golden Globe it came as a surprise for me at least. Kate is a veteran and already has an Oscar to her name so maybe this is the year of the up and coming talent! Alicia Vikander in The Danish Girl has be praised for her role as well as Rooney Mara in Carol. But Rachel McAdams also had a role of a life time in Spotlight! For me any of these woman can win and it is so hard to pick just one.

The buzz around The Oscars this year has been crazy it will be exciting to see who pulls through this year!

My heart would vote Spotlight, Hardy, and Vikander…but my heart is frequently misguided in these matters.
