Earlier this week, I stumbled upon this article that includes a conversation between Emma Watson and Bell Hooks (http://www.papermag.com/emma-watson-bell-hooks-conversation-1609893784.html).
This was a great article that really got me thinking. A particular moment that stood out to me was when Emma mentioned that she thought about going back to grad school, but decided instead to read as much as she could on her own and learn as much as she could, specifically about gender studies. Her goal is to read a book a week plus the month’s pick for her book club “Our Shared Shelf” (https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/179584-our-shared-shelf).
As a book lover myself, I always find myself envious of others who find time to read in daily life while I find it a struggle to find the time to read more than a couple of pages of a non-school book a day. I think it’s so important that we continue to educate ourselves and spread that dialogue with others, especially in topics that aren’t being discussed enough in our communities. This is the way to evoke change and awareness! I think people often underestimate the power of words. This article was a great inspiration to me and (hopefully) I will find more time to read for fun soon.
