Will Smith-Matt West

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was the breakout of one of the best African American actors of our generation. Will Smith started out as an MC with songs like “Miami” and “Summertime” and in 1988 he won a Grammy. Smith also almost went bankrupt in 1990 after being charged $2.8 million in back taxes. After the Fresh Prince Smith went on first to Six Degrees of Separation (1993) and then Bad Boys in (1995). His first big hit was Independence Day in 1995. This movie started a long trend to movies involving alien or morphed beings like Men in Black 1, 2, & 3, and I AM LEGEND. He also did a delinquent superhero movie in Hancock. Smith is one of the most versatile actor in the industry. He played a broke go-getting worker in the Pursuit of Happyness and then played Dr. Bennet Omalu in the Brain Injury Research Institute. He is currently set to star in Collateral Beauty which is about a New York advertising executive that goes into a deep depression. I think that Will Smith is an inspiration for his work ethic and dedication to his profession. He is outwardly spoken on his philosophy on success and his ability to put in a “sickening” amount of work. He also claims that what sets him apart from others is that he isn’t afraid to “die” on a treadmill. His success is a testament that individuals regardless of circumstances can determine their goals and achieve them.
