The Simpson’s Predictions

After Donald Trump’s elections as President elect I saw a lot of things in the media about The Simpsons predicting this event in one of their episodes. After doing some research I found that there are twenty one occasions where they were able to predict things that would happen in the future. But was this just luck or do the script writers really do have a power to predict things from the future. Well the way I see it is that since their debut on TV on December 17th, 1989 and 604 episodes there has been a lot of things going on in each episode. That is why I think that they have to come up with a lot of stuff that I believe that in the future sometimes occurs. I think that the script writers of The Simpsons were really original and had to come up with a lot of different ideas. Some of this idea inventions, for example they predicted that we would be able to video call with phones. I think that one of the difficulties of writing for this type of Sitcoms is to come up with ideas. There are so many episodes that it is probably so hard to come up with stuff to talk about. Nevertheless, it is pretty funny how sometimes they are able to predict stuff and see people’s reactions.

Mind. Blown. A very interesting blog topic! I definitely agree that creativity is connected with future and it forces you to look ahead and come up with something people don’t usually think about. It is funny how they predicted Donald Trump’s election. I’ve also seen this in songs as well when they “predict” things.

I remember seeing this in the news and thought it was so weird. I feel like the writers picked someone who they never thought would become President unless America was going in an insane direction and went with it. I wonder when they were writing the episode if they ever thought it was a realistic possibility. – Katie Thevenow

WOW these pictures are actually crazy. I didn’t realize that The Simpsons had done this before and I think it’s really incredible when this kind of thing happens and it really makes you wonder if people do have the ability to predict the future. This reminds me of the recent picture of a high school senior’s portrait who predicted the Cubs would win the world series this year. These pictures are so uncanny that it seems like it had to be a real prediction of some kind. Thanks for sharing!

That’s so interesting they predicted Trump’s election! It is sad though because at the time that they scripted that they probably were so sure that he would never get elected, as Katie mentioned. Great topic! -Kelsey Sierra

This is really creepy! But I think it makes sense that The Simpsons in particular has this ability, especially after reading the chapter in the Reader about this show. The writers have to have their fingers on the pulse of pop culture past and present, constantly. Time and culture often has circular predictable patterns. Honestly, it doesn’t surprise me that there was so much vitriol in this election because of how much talk of progress during the Obama administration. White male fragility backlashed in the 2016 election. The fact that they got Trump in particular shows some weird foresight, but things aren’t as chaotic as we think they are sometimes.

I agree that it is funny how that works out! They’ve just made so much content that there must be a higher chance that something would’ve come truth rather than something not.

I have seen this before and was also pretty mind blown. its always funny to see these shows that are so outrageous predict things that come true because like in this case, they aren’t really predictions being made by the show but rather just a comedy show making a really big joke that just happened to come true in real life against all odds.
