Intersting post! Gender roles in the trilogy is definitely an interesting topic. I want to add that “I’m not a man” is not a line out of the original novel, so it will be even more interesting to figure out what’s intended by the author and what’s added by the filmmakers. I am a big fan of The Lord of the Rings films mostly for the amazing action and effects. This is a really interesting post and has made me think about and look at these films in a completely different way. I want to rewatch the films with the idea of gender roles in mind and see how my viewing experience differs.
