Sense8 tells the story of eight strangers: Will (Smith), Riley (Middleton), Capheus (Ameen), Sun (Bae), Lito (Silvestre), Kala (Desai), Wolfgang (Riemelt), and Nomi (Clayton). Each individual is from a different culture and part of the world. Sense8 tackles some serious subjects. Homosexuality, transgender relations, racial differences, feminism and deficiency of capitalism.
I find this show most interesting because the transitions from one person to the next, one scene to the next were exquisitely done every time. The way each sensate connected with the others, what they were able to help each other with emotionally and physically was masterfully done, with a very interesting and varied bunch of characters. I really mean interesting – there isn’t even one character that I can’t share some sort of bond with, don’t want to know more about or find interesting here, which on it’s own is quite an accomplishment considering that there are 8 main characters who couldn’t be more diverse. Made even more intriguing by all these developing connections between culturally very different people. In the show we finally see stories in color, and by color meaning diversity. The stereotypes are definitely present in the show, but above that, you see different people only being themselves and living their life.

I have watched part of the first episode of this series, but was unsure how I would feel about connecting to so many main characters. I like how the show offers subtle commentary on diversity and include characters from such varied locations and cultures. I think the supernatural connection between them is symbolic of how all humans are connected.

A while back ago, I was recommended this show. Though I haven’t gotten around to watching it yet, I’m sure I will in the near future. I love the fact that this show is bringing light to other cultures and identities. I am interested to see how everyone connects with each other.

Although I haven’t seen this show, I definitely need to check it out. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed when a show has too many main characters, but this one sounds pretty good. I like that they address serious issues and stereotypes. -Caitlin Herlihy
